We Stand

On Friday, we joined the YWCA for Stand Against Racism is a movement that aims to eliminate racism by raising awareness…with the hope to unite as one community in order to celebrate diversity, raise awareness that racism and injustice still exist, and silence the voices of those who promote hate.
As an annual day to recognize that racism still exists and that we must play an active role in standing against it, SOWA proudly stood with the Y
WCA, and stands every day. Here at SOWA, we are working toward infusing a racial equity framework into all of the work that we do. While the work is challenging, we see it as vital. Not as a supplemental side project, but as 100% relevant and interwoven into all aspects of youth development work.
For myself, as a white person, challenging racism is not only important, it is a personal responsibility. While it can be easy to be apathetic or passive in the face of racism, we must stand strong. In the words of Martin Luther King Jr.:
We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people.”
I thought I’d share a few resources on how we can all be advocates and allies in the movement for racial justice. A movement is nothing without the individuals standing together.
