On Thursday, March 27th, Highline Community College received approval from the State Board of Community and Technical Colleges for its Bachelors in Applied Behavioral Science in Youth Development. Jessica Werner, Executive Director of Youth Development Executives of King County (YDEKC) testified alongside Highline’s President and Vice President as an “industry partner” to validate the need for the program, which received unanimous approval from the SBCTC members.

Highline plans to start with a small cohort of approximately 15 students during the 2014-2015 school year. YDEKC and Schools Out Washington have been playing a support role to the faculty, Dan Drischel and Alice Madsen, developing the program at Highline to ensure that the program draws from field approved best practices such as the Statewide Youth Program Quality Standards that have been recently released and the Core Competencies for Youth Workers which SOWA developed collaboratively several years ago. Stay tuned for more information about the new program as soon as the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities completes accreditation approvalin the coming monthsFor general information contact John Huber, Highline’s BAS Director at jhuber@highline.edu
