Meet Tom Bardwell

It's a new year, and another chance to get to know a new SOWA staff member!
The Ohio-born, Massachusetts-educated Tom Bardwell joined our team in February as our Executive and Operations Coordinator, working directly with our CEO and our operations team to take charge of a variety of critical tasks from payroll to coordinating our Board of Directors. Let's meet him!
Where are you from?
I was born in Flint, Michigan but raised in Youngstown, Ohio. I moved from Ohio to Massachusetts in 2006 for graduate school and have been living in Seattle, Washington for 1 year and 8 months
What do you like to do in your own time?
I love to color! I own nearly 20 coloring books and am a big fan of gel pens/markers over colored pencils. I like attending plays, talks and events at Town Hall Seattle, and dance parties.
What brought you to SOWA?
The agency’s passion and commitment for eradicating inequities in educational attainment among youth of color. Also, I was inspired to apply my background working with underserved populations (youth experiencing homelessness; children/young adults impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic) to serve the goals of a local non-profit.
Tell us one thing that you are proud of.
I am proud of not letting 2016 get the best of me. It was a very challenging year on a number of levels, but with the support of my friends, family and my community, I was able to preserve and thrive in the New Year.
